National History Day
NDSU’s Department of History, Philosophy, and Religious Studies is hosting the National History Day Southeast Regional again! On Friday, March 6, 2020, in the Memorial Union’s Plains Ballroom, middle and high school students will present their projects and compete for a spot in the NHD state competition on April 17, 2020 at the North Dakota Heritage Center and Museum (Bismarck, North Dakota). Select winners at the state level will earn the chance to compete in the National Contest on June 14-18, 2020 at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Breaking Barriers in History
The NHD theme this year is “Breaking Barriers in History.” According to the NHD brochure, “barriers can be physical, natural, or ideological,” such as changes in national borders from wars, developing technological advancements, or acquiring new rights under the law. For more on the theme, see the theme narrative here: https://www.nhd.org/sites/default/files/NHD_2020ThemeBook_web%20version-pages-7-8.pdf
The competition is divided by grade level (middle and high school) and by categories. They can be completed individually or as a group. The categories are:
- Web site
- Paper (individual only)
